I don’t believe in hypnosis!

That’s fine. Some people don’t believe the earth is a sphere either.

In my opinion, the best quote from the movie “City of Angels” was spoken by the character Seth. He said:

“Some things are true whether you believe in them or not.”

Whether I believe in something or don’t believe in something, the question for me is always “Why do I believe this? (or not believe it). Do I have reasons or is it just a knee-jerk reaction? Maybe it’s something I have been told that I haven’t verified. Perhaps it’s just an impression that I have.

Being in the hypnosis business, I am always intrigued when someone in my presence says something like “I don’t believe in that mumbo-jumbo.” Or “Hypnosis is not real.”

Really? Do tell me more…

There are roughly four-thousand years worth of evidence that hypnosis is real and in the last 50 years, the medical community has taken more and more interest in the possible uses of hypnosis. Did you know that they teach hypnosis at the Harvard Medical School? You can view the course HERE. WebMD talks about hypnosis HERE. And the Mayo Clinic discusses it HERE and even offers it as a treatment HERE.

Of course, legally speaking, the United States Department of Justice acknowledges the uses of hypnosis in the legal system and has issued a set of guidelines for the use of hypnosis in investigations and court. You can read more on that HERE.

The magazine Scientific Amerian not only acknowledges hypnosis is real, it publishes regular articles about advances in understanding that are being made. You can read one of those articles HERE. Or HERE. Or HERE.

Maybe you prefer Psychology Today. If so, start reading HERE. Or HERE. Or HERE.

So, I’d love to discuss your reasoning on this, but please make sure you have done your research. I have. If not, may I suggest you might find something to your liking HERE.
